Zima / Winter

Malawi lies in the Southern hemisphere, so there's winter here at the moment. But don't worry - Mzuzu winter is just like Polish early summer: sunny and pleasantly warm - just perfect.

For Malawians things look different. Many people wear hats, coats and even winter jackets - because it is "very cold". Indeed, temperatures can be severe as 16 degrees (mornings and evenings; during the day it gets warmer). When temperature at the house or in the office is below 20 degrees, people wear their coats indoors too.

In a bus: we waited for some 3 hours till the bus started moving. It was hot (about 27-28 degrees inside and considerably hotter outside). I was sweating in thin travelling clothes. And many people around wore jackets. The gentleman in the middle wore a real winter jacket. It took him over 2 hours wait till he decided to take it off
As to me, I'm fine and still enjoy my stay here very much. People are friendly and helpful. Malawi is said to be "the warm heart of Africa" and that is very true.

PS: my Polish mobile phone works again
